Title: "Deus faz, o Templo dos Anjos mostra": perfil eclesial e adesão religiosa na Igreja do Evangelho Quadrangular em Belo Horizonte

Abstract: Essa dissertação investiga as rupturas e continuidades entre o sincretismo religioso brasileiro e a Igreja do Evangelho Quadrangular, para isso, ressalta seus princípios teológicos, seu mito fundacional, sua liberalidade nos usos e costumes e suas inovações proselitistas. Também se dirige às repercussões do modelo de evangelismo de massa inaugurado pela Cruzada Nacional de Evangelização (1953) na emergência do mercado religioso pluralista e competitivo no Brasil, atentando para seus reflexos nas denominações pentecostais clássicas e protestantes históricas. Em seguida, o enfoque analítico se dirige para a IEQ Templo dos Anjos, igreja quadrangular localizada em Belo Horizonte, marcada por elaborações teológicas híbridas, por uma oferta simbólica diversificada, por um alto investimento em proselitismo midiático e por uma estrutura organizacional flexível. Os métodos investigativos empregados na pesquisa de campo foram: observação-participante, análise documental, entrevistas informais e coleta de testemunhos. Desse modo, por meio desse estudo de caso se identifica elementos da vida religiosa que contribuem para a elucidação de como essa agência pentecostal regula uma clientela numerosa, dividida entre adeptos fixos e regulares e adeptos episódicos e flutuantes.
Abstract: This dissertation investigates the ruptures and continuities between the Brazilian religious syncretism and the Foursquare Church, emphasizes its theological principles, its foundational myth, its liberality in customs and its evangelists innovations. Also addresses to the repercussions of mass evangelism model launched by the Cruzada Nacional de Evangelização (1953) on emergence from the pluralistic and competitive religious marketplace in Brazil, emphasizing its reflections in the classical Pentecostal denominations and historic Protestant. Then, the analysis addresses the IEQ Templo dos Anjos, Pentecostal church located in Belo Horizonte, characterized by a hybrid theology, varied symbolic offering, large media investment, and a flexible organizational structure. The methodologies employed in field research were participant observation, document analysis, informal interviews and recording of testimonies. Thus, this case study identifies elements of religious life that contribute to the elucidation of how this Pentecostal agency regulates its numerous clients, divided between fixed and regular members and episodic and fluctuating members.
