Resumo
Este artigo visa analisar os resultados obtidos durante o processo de tradução de dois artigos publicados em um jornal indiano, “The Sufi” (1988) e “Sex and the Indian” (1987) de Makarandi Paranjape. As traduções foram feitas da língua inglesa para a língua portuguesa com o objetivo de evidenciar os desafios enfrentados e escolhas feitas pelo tradutor ao traduzir textos que apresentam fortes traços linguísticos culturais divergentes da língua de chegada. Para analisar termos culturalmente marcados, foi utilizado o modelo de modalidades de tradução (Aubert 1984,1988). Esses são definidos em cinco categorias como Empréstimo, Decalque,
Explicitação, Modulação e Empréstimo com Explicitação. As definições são apresentadas durante o trabalho dialogando com as etapas do processo tradutório. Esse processo permitiu observar barreiras culturais, assim como semelhanças e diferenças entre o par linguístico língua portuguesa e língua inglesa. Dessa maneira o tradutor se torna um mediador entre as duas culturas, apresentando os aspectos sócio-culturais presentes na obra original.
Abstract
This paper aims to present the results obtained in the translation process of two articles published in an Indian newspaper “The Sufi” and “Sex and the Indian” by Makarandi Paranjape. The translations were made from English to Portuguese in order to highlight the challenges faced and choices made by the translator when translating texts that have strong cultural linguistic traits that are different from the target language. In order to analyze culturally marked terms, it used the translation modalities model (Aubert 1984,1988). These are defined in five categories such as Loan, Decal, Explicit, Modulation, and Explicit Borrowing. The definitions are
presented during the assignment dialoguing with the stages of the translation process.This process allowed us to observe cultural barriers, as well as similarities and differences between the language pair Portuguese and English. In this way, the translator becomes a mediator between the two cultures, presenting the socio-cultural aspects present in the original work.
