Abstract

Faced with the scenario of the new Coronavirus pandemic, many expectations regarding vaccination were sought. However, not every population shared its real importance for collective health, and it was possible to notice the spread of false news and misinformation about vaccines. As the teaching of science in basic education can play an important role in the connection between students and the scientific community, the objective of this work was to investigate the importance of scientific literacy as an instrument to combat information in relation to national immunization campaigns The work was carried out in a Science classroom, through the inquiry teaching learning approach. The proposed activities were part of an inquiry teaching didatic sequence (SEI) that involved different issues related to the topic of immunization. The work was structured as qualitative research and the data were analyzed from the identification of scientific literacy indicators through the development of an investigative teaching sequence (SEI). It was possible to identify different indicators of scientific literacy related to the work of Sasseron and Carvalho (2018) and Marandino et al (2018). We believe that the approach used was promising for scientificliteracy in this classroom, which brings significant contributions to science learning beyond the conceptual dimension.
