Aí fizemos um boi: um estudo sobre a festa popular no Boi de Garrote em Manaus

Abstract

The ox - bumbá in the Amazon guard multiple universes practices according to the region it happens. We studied in this work one of them, the ox Garrote , practiced by children and adolescents in the city of Manaus. For many, this is a practice that did not existed anymore. However, we show how the Garrote is a living and active practice and reveals ways of social interactions among children and neighborhood fleeing to a logic of contemporaneity. Although it has been the weather variations, reinvented through the event, the show, and went on to occupy other spaces beyond the yard or backyard, as the arena and school spaces. This renovation brings some tensions, as the institutionalization of popular practice and consequently to the dance exoticization , one of the essential elements of the manifestation of Boi- bumbá.
