Abstract

Groundwater is the subject of study throughout the Iron Quadrangle, as it has large water reserves that contribute to the supply of the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region. This study was conducted to assist environmental agencies in making decisions for the management of water resources, allowing them to identify areas with the greatest potential for the installation of wells. In order to understand the groundwater levels in the Moeda Syncline, the western portion of the Iron Quadrangle, it is necessary to collect measurement data at monitoring points. However, these points are distributed irregularly. The objective of the study is to create a depth map of the water level in the Moeda Syncline using “topo to raster” interpolation, a technique used to estimate unknown values, in order to obtain information where there is insufficient data. The work methodology was based on interpolation and construction of hydrogeological sections using ArcGIS and CorelDRAW software. The water level depth map showed an anisotropic distribution and some regions with a predominance of high static levels, such as in the northeast and southwest portions.
