Resumo
O objetivo de nosso trabalho é a análise do problema do modo de estabelecimento da referência de uma classe de termos pertencentes à linguagem das teorias científicas: a classe dos termos teóricos. Segundo teorias descritivo-funcionais da referência, a solução desse problema encontra-se no interior de cada teoria científica. Uma teoria científica nos mostra, ela mesma, como determinar a referência de seus termos. A solução depende, pois, de cada teoria. Nosso problema revela-se, finalmente, como um problema de escolha entre teorias científicas diversas. Ele toma-se, assim, uma questão de escolha, uma questão prática à qual a semântica não pode fundamentalmente responder.
Abstract
The objective of this work is the analysis of the problem of the way of establishing the reference of a class of terms belonging to the language of scientific theories: the class of theoretical terms. The solution to this problem, according to descriptive-functional theories of reference, is to be found in the interior of each scientific theory. A scientific theory by itself shows us how to determine the reference of its terms. The solution is then relative to each scientific theory. In this way, our problem reveals itself to be the problem of choosing among different scientific theories, turning out to be a matter of choice This is a pragmatic question to be solved not by semantics, but by pragmatics.
