“Eu não dou conta disso”: representações sociais de professores da educação básica sobre alunas travestis e transexuais

Abstract

This paper analyzed the social representations of teachers of Basic Education in Belo Horizonte/MG about transvestite and transsexual students. For data collection, narrative interviews were carried out with six teachers who had transvestite or transsexualstudents in their path and the content analysis method was used. The results show that transsexuality and transvestility are represented as something ―unfamiliar‖, in addition to being anchored from the references of cisgender bodies. It is evident that there is still a long way to go for the quality of access and permanence of transvestites and transsexuals in basic school.
