Performance e ritual no teatro latino-americano: influências e desconstruções artaudianas

Abstract

This thesis intends to discuss the performance and ritual present in Latin American theater based on the hypothesis that the certain scenic manifestations existing in Latin America refer to the theater idealized by Antonin Artaud at the beginning of the 20th century. Thus, first the Artaudian proposal for reconstructing the theater will be presented, and then the terms performance and ritual will be debated. Based on the concepts presented, the work and creation paths of three theatrical groups will be analyzed: Totem from Brazil, Sotz'il from Guatemala and Yuyachkani from Peru. Furthermore, the scenic experiences carried out through an elective course offered to undergraduate Theater students at the Federal University of Minas Gerais will be reported, as well as the author's practical experiments developed through this investigation.
