A diversidade das coisas: modos de expressão na cerâmica Tupiguarani da ilha de São Luís e arredores, Maranhão/ Brasil

Abstract

The theme of this article is the Tupi/tupiguarani populations that are in the Island of São Luís and surroundings. The ceramic material of the analyzed sites presents general characteristics identified with the Tupiguarani tradition, such as the use of chamotte as an element associated to paste, decorative surface treatment with colors and pictorial organization that define the group; ceramic bowl body with sinuous contour, some inflections and corners. However, there are many differences that still need to be clarified and better explained. The material presented here does not fit into any of the classification categories used contemporaneously, as they do not fit into their descriptions.We start with the ceramic material of the sites studied on the island, which we observe in an inter and intra-site analysis. Later, we related to them the material of known sites in São Luís and in the immediate continent, marking the different ceramic expressions of this regional archeology.
