As horas nuas e nas tuas mãos: memórias de mulheres entre o espaço intimista e a vivência política

Abstract

This work aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the literary works As horas nuas (1989), by Lygia Fagundes Telles, and Nas tuas mãos (1997), by Inês Pedrosa, through the lens of gender studies, history, and testimony. The analysis takes into account the historical contexts of each publication, namely, the post-military dictatorship period in Brazil and the post-Estado Novo period in Portugal, both marked by authoritarianism, violence, and practices of persecution and coercion. The study draws from gender studies, with a focus on trauma and collective memory, seeking to understand how female narratives, through intimacy and domestic spaces, serve as testimony and silent resistance in times of exception. For the theoretical foundation of this analysis, we utilize the research of thinkers such as Virginia Woolf (1929), Primo Levi (1988), Judith Herman (1992), Michelle Perrot (1995), Jeanne-Marie Gagnebin (2006), Márcio Selligman-Silva (2008), Aleida Assman (2011), Pierre Bourdieu (2013), Georges Didi-Huberman (2013), and Beatriz Sarlo (2021), as well as other authors who explore gender, class, and race issues in their works. Finally, the dissertation examines the familial, affective, and spatial relationships of the protagonists, highlighting the relevance of the home as a place for gender construction and performance.
