As marcas das vias de transmissão dos textos: um estudo de caso

Abstract

This study aimed to discuss the marks that different transmission ways of the same text leave in their records. The two versions of the same textual unit (chap. 20 and chap. 48) of the Portuguese medieval translation of the work of Isaac of Nineveh were taken as objects of analysis: the version of chap. 20 was transmitted by the Spanish-Portuguese way and that of chap. 48 through the Latin-Portuguese way. It was tested the hypothesis that different transmission ways must have left marks at different levels, both textual and lexical. This hypothesis was confirmed, since textual and lexical differences were identified in the two analyzed versions. From the textual point of view, each of the ways transmitted a version of the textual unit analyzed with different content, with omissions in both versions due to the model used, that is, none of them transmitted the entire text of Isaac de Nineveh's work. From the lexical point of view, each version presented lexical items that are exclusive to it, part of which is attributable to the model's source language (Spanish or Latin). However, it was also possible to identify private forms of each version that are not attributable to this type of interference, thus being windows to the knowledge of the Portuguese translator's own lexical patterns.
