Arte e alimento. Artistas e suas relações afetivas com as plantas alimentícias

Abstract

Various sources demonstrate that the food theme is expanding, and its growth is reaching different areas of knowledge, including the Arts. Given that artists are agents connected to present-day issues, it is necessary to understand what actions they construct concerning contemporary demands in the midst of the Anthropocene era. With this intent, an interdisciplinary research was conducted whose objective is to contribute to the creation of archives that contemplate the theme, Art and Food, more precisely the affective involvements established between Jorge Menna Barreto, Jaider Esbell, and Lucia Gouvêa Pimentel with food plants. The affective aspect highlighted refers to the relational state from which images and ideas emerge that reflect, build, and modify social realities. With the purpose of assisting Arts professionals in their challenges, especially those working in education, a propositive material was developed that places edible vegetables as mediators for an art education with environmental education. What the investigation allowed to ascertain is that the experiences gathered here constitute an affective ecology of reconnection. By nurturing links of this nature, Barreto, Esbell, and Pimentel construct visualities of resistance to extractivism and knowledge of care. This perspective affirms art as an instance of knowledge active in the urgent remodeling of humanity in its way of relating to plants and all beings that inhabit the planet.
