Pelas curvas do barroco e do rococó mineiro: um estudo sobre projeto de móveis contemporâneos brasileiros

Abstract

This research analyzes the author's design process on the creation and production of contemporary furniture, based on a reflection on tradition and innovation, which involves the Rococo/Baroque of Minas Gerais and how it was possible to make a cultural translation of these styles in her work, through a production that involves technology and craftsmanship. The importance of investigating this way of designing is the possibility of valuing this traditional knowledge and bringing it into dialogue with innovative projects, analyzing a project through an artistic perspective. With this, it was possible to investigate relevant aspects of artisanal woodworking and how the Rococo/Baroque of Minas Gerais influences, until today, certain artisanal production. Another major challenge that was addressed is how to deal with all these variants that involve these styles without falling into false histories or trying to mimic the past in the present. For this, an analysis of this scenario was carried out through field research and bibliographic and iconographic analyses in physical and digital media. Thus, through this method, an overview is sought to understand not only these pieces of furniture, but the whole context that involves the craft of carpentry and issues of Minas Gerais' geographical identity of historic cities, heritage and teaching of culture and arts. As a result, a design method was obtained that can be used today.
