My formative pathway in the field of latin at IEL-Unicamp: a personal report

Resumo
Com esta contribuição, pretendo descrever, de uma forma geral, como me interessei pela área dos Clássicos quando ainda
era aluno do IEL-Unicamp, onde me graduei em Língua e Literatura Portuguesa. Depois, fiz meu mestrado e doutorado em Linguística, com foco específico em estudos sobre a Antiguidade Romana. Assim, comento o fascínio despertado em mim, desde as minhas primeiras aulas no Instituto, não só pelo contato com a língua milenar, mas também com sua literatura; ademais, atribuo tal efeito, além de às potencialidades instrutivas do latim em si, à habilidade e sabedoria de meus antigos professores. Em seguida, aos poucos explico como aprofundei meu contato com os Estudos Clássicos no IEL, primeiro desenvolvendo atividades de monitor de latim para os respectivos cursos de graduação; em seguida, trabalhando em um projeto de iniciação científica, cujo objetivo era preparar uma tradução parcial de Suetônio. Por fim, faço comentários sobre a forma como decidi proceder à pós-graduação nessa área e obtive os dois últimos diplomas mencionados.
Abstract
With this contribution, my aim is to describe, generally speaking, how I became interested in the area of Classics when I was
still a student at IEL-Unicamp, where I earned an undergraduate degree in Portuguese Language and Literature. It was where I also graduated in my master’s and my PhD degrees in Linguistics afterwards, specifically focused on studies about Roman Antiquity. Thus, I comment about my fascination, since my first classes at the Institute, not only through the contact with the ancient language, but also with its literature; besides, I ascribe such an effect, along with the instructive potentialities of Latin on their own, to the skillfulness and wisdom of my former professors. I then explain, gradually, how I made my contact with Classical Studies deeper at IEL, firstly developing activities as a Latin instructor for the corresponding undergraduate courses; next, working in a basic scientific research project, whose aim was to prepare a partial translation of Suetonius. Finally, I make comments on the way I decided to proceed to graduate studies in this area and completed the two last-mentioned degrees
