Meu percurso formativo na área de latim no IEL-Unicamp: um relato pessoal

Abstract

With this contribution, my aim is to describe, generally speaking, how I became interested in the area of Classics when I was still a student at IEL-Unicamp, where I earned an undergraduate degree in Portuguese Language and Literature. It was where I also graduated in my master’s and my PhD degrees in Linguistics afterwards, specifically focused on studies about Roman Antiquity. Thus, I comment about my fascination, since my first classes at the Institute, not only through the contact with the ancient language, but also with its literature; besides, I ascribe such an effect, along with the instructive potentialities of Latin on their own, to the skillfulness and wisdom of my former professors. I then explain, gradually, how I made my contact with Classical Studies deeper at IEL, firstly developing activities as a Latin instructor for the corresponding undergraduate courses; next, working in a basic scientific research project, whose aim was to prepare a partial translation of Suetonius. Finally, I make comments on the way I decided to proceed to graduate studies in this area and completed the two last-mentioned degrees
