Abstract

This essay intends to explore the hypothesis that there would be in the indistinction created in the figure of the monster of Frankenstein, between the human and nonhuman, a mimetic principle that, although does not imply necessarily the monstrous, was associated with it. In Mary Shelley’s novel, there is a question about how to understand that something that imitates a human being, in all its characteristics, especially linguistic, would be a human being, that is, a question about taking the imitation as a criterion for defining the human.
