A nova era da globalização: um estudo longitudinal comparativo sobre os impactos da COVID-19 nas práticas de professores de inglês

Abstract

We are currently living a pandemic of extreme proportions, triggered by the new Coronavirus, which causes the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This paper, therefore, aims to discuss the effects of this pandemic on the teaching of English in public and private schools in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. This research has taken a qualitative longitudinal methodology, from the point of view of five participants, thus characterizing a comparative case study. Through the narratives of five teachers of English as a foreign language in the capital of Minas Gerais, in this paper we analyse recurring themes among the participants, namely, the difficulty of access to technology by students from public schools, the emotional impacts resulting from the pandemic, in addition to doubts, anxieties and uncertainties of these teachers, both at the beginning of the pandemic and today.
