O texto contextualiza inicialmente o trombone (BAINES, 1993; GREGORY, 1973), o trombone no Brasil (SANTOS, 1999; SALLES, 1985; ELLMERICH, 1977) e o trombone no choro (JUNIOR, 2014; CAZES, 1999; PINTO, 1978).
Abstract: A study on the performance practices of Brazilian trombone player Zé da Velha in the music genre of choro, based on the transcription and analysis of seven choros from his first solo CD, Só Gafieira! (ZÉ DA VELHA and PONTES, 1995). This dissertation aims at demonstrating his importance as an interpretive reference for instrumentalists of this popular Brazilian genre, and specifically for trombone performance practices. The text initially contextualizes the trombone (BAINES, 1993; GREGORY, 1973), the trombone in Brazil (SANTOS, 1999; SALLES, 1985; ELLMERICH 1977) and the trombone in choro (JUNIOR, 2014; CAZES, 1999; PINTO, 1978). Then, Zé da Velhas biography is presented (JESUS, 1999; DINIZ and CUNHA, 2016). Finally, at its core, there is the analysis (ALMADA, 2006; KUEHN, 2012; LARUE, 1992; RUSSEL, 2001) of the transcriptions of the primary sources (Acariciando, Flor de Abacate, Cinco Companheiros, Doce de Côco, Eu Hein?, Sonoroso e Chorinho de Gafieira), which are audio tracks from the recording (ZÉ DA VELHA, PONTES and FREITAS, 2017) in performance editions (BORÉM, 2015), demonstrating the performance aspects that characterize the interpretive style of Zé da Velha and his interaction with Brazilian trumpet player Silvério Pontes.
